Being a Capernaum YL leader, I consider myself well-versed in teen idols. As embarrassing as it may be, I do in fact know every word to High School Musical's "We're All In This Together" (I also know the dance, but we'll keep that on the DL). I also consider Brittany Meyer's version of "The Climb" to be the best I've ever heard.
That being said, I think I underestimated the force of teen girl hysteria.
I was driving home last week when I saw a movie premiere being set up on Hollywood Blvd. at Grauman's Chinese Theater. So, as I took a picture from my car (see above), I decided to come back later and check it out. I hadn't ever been to one before and I wanted to see what it was all about.
For all of you who don't watch Twilight or listen to pop radio, you might not understand what I was getting myself into. [See Below]
I thought that any movie premiere would be exciting, but this was on a whole other level. The two biggest teen idols together in one place? The lines and lines of teenage girls screaming their lungs out was impressive, to say the least. I knew that Taylor Lautner would be there, considering he was in the movie. But then the Biebs shows up with Selena and gave the Beatles a run for their money.
One thing I have to say. I would not want that life. I do not want thousands of people screaming at me wherever I go. It was crazy to witness the effect that these two teenage boys had on hundreds of girls. I was watching from the edge of the pack, taking it all in, and what I witnessed blew my mind.
They have such a voice, and that is a really cool thing. If their presence alone caused this level of attention, then what they say and what they do will too. The fact that they can command an international audience at all times is an opportunity that could be used for great good and great influence. But as incredible it is that they have it, their voice comes with a price that I don't think I would be willing to pay.
